Aksum, Ethiopia

Stelae from 3-4th century, each carved from a single piece of granite. The tallest is over 20m and weighs over 500 tons! It's believed all are grave markers - tombs have been discovered - but the area has not been fully excavated.

According to Ethiopian lore, these are the remains of the palace of the Queen of Sheeba
